The Speed of Trust… and Your Business

How does the speed of trust effect your business? It’s been stated over and over that any successful business is based on relationships. And what’s at the center of any great relationship?

Trust!

With trust, there is absolutely nothing that cannot be accomplished. Without it, you’re just wasting your time.

In business, we are invariably fighting against mistrust and suspicion caused by impulsive salesmen that will say anything to make a sale.

Can anyone truly build a business based on trust? Can it be done by being entirely real and genuine with everybody you speak with?

Do individuals earning money obtain success by making individuals think that it’s simple? Anyone can do it!

“Heck, I had 25 new high-ticket sales within the first week I joined the company! And I put over $25,000 in my pocket in a matter of weeks! It’s a piece of cake! If I can do it, I know that you can too!”

Do you think there just might be a few details missing in that description? Is it conceivable that anyone new to business can match those numbers?

As we end up being more skillful in our approach, it’s vital to build trust and integrity as part of our core values.

The Speed of Trust

Stephen M.R. Covey is the author of a book named “The Speed of Trust“. It talks about the value of building trust with individuals that you work with.

Have you ever been in a business environment where you challenged the intentions of your business partners or co-workers? How did that feel?

Have you seen the exact opposite – where everyone worked well together? Everyone was on the same page. You understood that what you were doing was important and everybody was excited to play a part in it.

Credibility

Mr. Covey outlines what he calls the ‘4 Cores of Credibility’. Without these 4 principals, it will be hard to develop trust in your business partnerships.

  • Integrity – everything begins with you. Do you have a reputation for being honest? Are you truthful and would not lie? Do you bring this value into your business?
  • Intent – the next principal is to have positive intent in everything that you do. You are not trying to hide anything or deceive anyone with your hidden agenda. In our business, we should make people’s lives better. Let’s get rid of the half-truths (and outright lies!) that seem commonplace in business.
  • Capable – do you have the proficiency, know-how, and ability required to do the job? If you are new to your business, your work is cut out for you. You absolutely must get up to speed as quickly as you can about the company and the products you’re representing. If you are building a team, any prospective business partners need to know that you are the leader they are looking for to help them succeed in their business.
  • Results – exactly what’s your performance history been in the past? If you have actually been successful in your past endeavors, then the odds are good that you will be successful in the future.

Hopes and Dreams

Now, step back and take a serious look at how you’re marketing and representing your business. Would you trust you?

If you build your business on trust, then you can look forward to building it right the first time. Be true to your business partners and customers – and be true to yourself.

Run your business on the ‘Golden Rule’. Treat your business partners and customers like you want to be treated. Set the right expectations and be true to your word.

Build your business like you really believe it will be around for a long, long time. Also, remember that you are dealing with the fragile hopes and dreams of many people. They want to believe – they really do.
